Agnico Eagle Mining Case Study
Challenge:
Agnico needed a portable quick deploy system that was easy to set up and reliable in the harsh environments of Nunavut.
Solution:
Galaxy offered a SCOUT to test at one of their locations.
Result:
The SCOUT has endured in the harsh winters and remote locales of Nunavut, resulting in Agnico purchasing the dish outright, as well as a second.
Agnico Eagle is a senior gold producer with 8 mines across Canada, Finland, and Mexico. Agnico Eagle met with Galaxy and chose to do a Proof of Concept with our mobile “SCOUT” unit, a satellite dish in a box complete with a VoIP phone router, wireless access point and cables.
After deploying a rental SCOUT at their Amaruq exploration project in Meadowbank NU for a few months, Agnico Eagle purchased the unit based on the SCOUT’s excellent performance. Soon after, Agnico Eagle purchased a second SCOUT for their Meliadine NU project.
“The SCOUT was mainly used for Network, Internet, and Phone connectivity. Agnico designed a portable rack with VPN routers, Cisco Call manager express, and WiFi to have kind of a “Agnico in a box” system that could be deployed anywhere quickly. Throughput was as expected and has been working reliably in bad weather conditions.
